What is a TSA lock and why do I need one?
Many people like to secure their suitcase during travel using a padlock. However, if security officiers at the airport feel they need to inspect the contents they'll break to the lock to get into the case.
A TSA lock solves this problem, at least in some countries such as the USA. It is a special type of lock that can be opened by security officers of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in the United States without damaging the lock.
To open the lock they use their own specialist master key - letting them into the case without having to break it. This provides you as a traveller with the security of a padlock without the risk that the TSA will just break it off.
TSA locks are available in versions for the user to open and close with a key, or with a combination. They are also available as seperate padlocks or built into the latches of some cases (either at point of manufacture or as a retro-fit).
